Unfortunately there is no magic pill or oil that will completely wipe out all symptoms of PMS. So we will do what we can to ease the pain, discomfort, bloating, fatigue, anxiety, depression, heachaches, cramps, mood swings and acne, this oh so wonderful monthly gift brings us.
There are pills and creams and products galore to help us try and fight this uphill battle that is menstruation. However, in the midst of trying to numb the pain with all of these synthetic and chemical products, we lose sight of the fact that menstruation is a natural shift of hormones, so we should be aiding that shift in the most natural way possible, Essential Oils.

My Recipe For Calming Cramps
To ease the pain of my uterine cramps I have been using a simple recipe and massaging it onto my abdomen a few times a day, whenever I feel like I need it. I squeeze some coconut oil into my hand and add one drop each of Lavender, Clary Sage and Fennel or Marjoram. I rub the excess oil onto my lower back because that area is also affected during my menstruation. All of these oils have powerful pain reducing and hormonal balancing properties. They also contribute to the health of my reproductive organs.
How I Combat Low Energy & Mood Swings
- All day everyday I will diffuse a blend of Peppermint, Wild Orange and Ylang Ylang
- I apply the Peppermint Roll On to the back of my neck, sides or my neck and bottoms of my feet. I find this really wakes me up and gives me the energy I need to get tasks done!
- A drop of Lemon in my water! This is great for overall health in so many ways but in this case I use it to fight fatigue
In The End?
You have to keep in mind that the effects of menstruation on the body can only be managed, they will never just go away. You also have to keep in mind that different oils will work better for me than for you! I encourage you to try different combinations and find one that helps you the most. This is simply a guide, a reference point, for you to discover what oils align with you. I hope this post helped in guiding you to which oils you should try to make that time of the month a little easier!
